Ferris wheel 850 years of Moscow

Ferris wheel – the most famous attraction in Moscow and soon it will not be. I believe that every city should have its own Ferris wheel.

The diameter of the wheel is 70 meters, height — 73 meters. The Ferris wheel was built in 1995 for the 850 anniversary of Moscow and became the highest attraction in Moscow and Eastern Europe. It has 40 passenger cabins, 12 of which are open. Each cabin can accommodate up to 8 passengers, and one turn of the wheel lasts 7 minutes.

During the construction of the wheel, it was the tallest in Europe, but later it surpassed the 90-meter attraction Eurowheel built in the Park of Mirabilandia in the UK, which is located in Ravenna in Italy, and 135-meter London eye in London, open to the public in 2000. The previous record among the Ferris wheels was: 94-metre Great wheel (English). in London, built in 1895 and demolished in 1907, and 100-metre Grande Roue de Paris in Paris, built for the world exhibition of 1900 in Paris and demolished in 1920.

This wheel is no longer the highest in Russia. The tallest Ferris wheel in Russia in the village of Lazarevskoye (the resort district of Sochi), the height of 80 m, open June 30, 2012. In 2004, plans to build a 170-metre wheel Rus-3000, but the project was cancelled. In 2009, the option was considered of building the wheel 180 meters in the Park of Culture, and in 2008-m — 150-foot wheel near Sparrow hills. Continue reading
